The Char Dham Yatra covers Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath in the Garhwal Himalayas. Most families from Delhi complete it in 10 to 12 days by road.
When do the temples open?
The dhams usually open around Akshaya Tritiya (April–May) and close around Diwali (October–November). The exact dates are announced every year, so check the official announcement before you book.
The usual route
The traditional order is clockwise: Haridwar → Barkot (Yamunotri) → Uttarkashi (Gangotri) → Guptkashi / Sitapur (Kedarnath) → Badrinath → back to Haridwar. Following this order keeps driving distances practical.
Registration is mandatory
The Uttarakhand government requires every pilgrim to register for the yatra. Keep the registration and an ID proof with you throughout the trip.
